Can not agree more with good colleague.

In an interview with Müürileht, Daniel Vaarik argues that traditional media is losing its importance as people seek alternative ways to engage with information. He observes that mainstream media often prioritizes conflict and sensationalism to drive profits, which alienates many readers.

Vaarik sees Levila as an experiment in storytelling that moves beyond traditional journalism by offering deeper, more personal narratives that connect with people on a human level. He believes media should focus less on daily news cycles and more on in-depth stories that genuinely reflect people’s lives.

He also highlights the financial challenges of independent media, noting that Levila relies on project-based funding and reader contributions to stay independent. Ultimately, Vaarik suggests that the role of media is shifting—from being an authoritative gatekeeper to a more fluid and participatory space where stories emerge organically and directly from communities.
